White oak retail interior
White oak rift-cut veneer across walls and fixture facings. ASTM E84 fire-cert add-on for retail compliance.
Rift-cut white oak produces a straight, linear grain with none of the cathedral drama of flat-cut veneer. For a retail interior where the walls need to serve as a clean ground for merchandise, the rift cut's restraint is exactly right. WV-33's pale gold tone reads as cool and contemporary under the store's LED track lighting without the warmth that would compete with the product's color palette.
New York City retail code requires ASTM E84 Class A fire certification for wall treatments in occupied commercial spaces. We specify fire-retardant treatment at the factory, applied to the backing before lamination — a cleaner process than field-applied sprays, which can alter the surface color and are difficult to apply evenly at the edges. The test report was included in the permit application and accepted without revision.
Fixture facings in a retail environment take significant contact wear — customers touch them, merchandise leans against them, and staff handle them daily. WV-33 was specified for both the wall areas and the fixture front panels, which allowed the entire interior to read as one coherent material. Consistent grain direction across walls and fixtures required careful planning at the cutting stage — the design team provided a dimensioned fixture drawing six weeks before the wall sections were cut.
