A design studio in Chengdu,
in the trade since 2018.
I've worked in natural wallcovering since 2018 — first as a manager at a natural-wallcovering company, then, in 2023, on my own as Grasscloths. We're a small Chengdu studio built around one question distributors and designers kept asking me: can you make this — this exact sample, this discontinued pattern, this drawing — and produce it properly? This page is what I show people when they ask "who are you, really?" and don't want a brochure. — Yuxing Qin, founder.
Here's the honest shape of it. We are a trading party and an in-house design studio — not a mill. You send a sample, a photo or a drawing; our three designers engineer it into production-ready CAD specs and a make-process; then the right partner factory produces it. The design and the spec are ours; the weaving is the factory's. We work in six material families — grasscloth and sisal, Portuguese cork, real wood veneer, mica and specialty weaves, and hand-laid gold foil — each with its own supply chain and its own QC.
What we actually sell is orchestration. Because we know how these materials are made, we can take a complex reference one factory can't produce, decompose it, and route it to the factory that can — or split it across two that collaborate. We don't pretend to be a 200-person mill, and we don't hold the certifications ourselves — the brand or buyer certifies our material for their market, and we supply the samples and documentation to support it. What we do promise: a physical proof before anything goes into production, a single dye-lot per run, and one person — me — who answers your email within a day.
Who you'll actually deal with.
In natural wallcovering since 2018; founded Grasscloths in 2023. Answers most of the export email in person.
Turn your sample, drawing or photo into production-ready CAD specs and a make-process the factory can run from.
We route each job to the factory that can make it — or split a complex weave across two that collaborate.
