Portuguese cork in CK-04 shows the natural bark texture at close range — the cellular structure of the cork oak is visible as a fine, irregular patterning across the surface. At the scale of a 28 m² room, four walls of this material create an environment that reads as warm and organic rather than decorated. Cork is more moisture-tolerant than grasscloth or sisal, which matters in Portland's climate. The office is on the ground floor with an exterior wall, and seasonal humidity variation would have caused problems with a fiber-based wallcovering.
